“A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.”
Proverbs 1:5 KJV
“They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.”
Verse 30

To understand as used here, also means to “deal wisely” amongst other meanings, so thought it still fits with this series 😆

Vine’s defines attain here as “to get, acquire, create and buy”. All these meanings imply EFFORT

Wise counsel means to either “receive guidance or in regards to a plan, good advice“. Therefore, to attain to wise counsel talks about the effort involved in getting guidance and good advice

The plurality in the wise of word “counsels” to me suggests that isn’t just one source; I find this helpful when seeking advice from wise people. One than one source might mostly provide a more balanced perspective whereas just one source might just confirm bias and/or validate thought lines.

The first source to go for wise counsel is GOD! HE has a lot to say in His Word about our lives and situations. Additionally, there are people He has gifted and would bring our way in response to our search when we need counsel; and no, they aren’t always older 😉

Remember, final decisions lie with you and you take absolute responsibility for the outcomes.

Be discerning ~ it increases with practice ~ in seeking wise counsel 😊
