“Wisdom is found on the lips of a person who has understanding, but a rod is for the back of one without sense.”
Proverbs 10:13 GW

In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding. KJV

From the various meanings of the root word, “understand” here means to discern, have intelligence, and think aptly. This perfectly relates to the attitudes of the wise!

Remember, God is the ultimate source of wisdom. With His gift comes the ability to discern – to see beyond the physically obvious – a true demonstration of understanding.

To have understanding also means demonstrating intelligence by avoiding undesirable circumstances. The “rod of correction” mentioned in the second part of the verse highlights this. A wise person avoids such consequences by listening to instructions and counsel – attitudes we’ve explored previously in this series!

So, in what ways do you demonstrate understanding in your life today? 🤔
