The Wise: Lay Up Knowledge

“Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.” Proverbs 10:14 KJV

The word translated “lay up” (from Strong’s) means to hide, hoard, or reserve. Other translations, like the AMP, render it as “store up and treasure”:

“Wise men store up and treasure knowledge [in mind and heart], But with the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand.” Proverbs 10:14 AMP

Something stored must first be gathered! So, where do the wise gather knowledge from?
As we’ve seen in previous posts, the wise gather knowledge from:

• The Lord
• Receiving commandments
• Treasuring wisdom and instructions
• The counsel of other wise people

What do the wise do with all this? They accumulate it to guide their thoughts, decisions, and actions when needed.
