“I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty [El-Shaddai], but by my name the Lord [Yahweh – the redemptive name of God] i did not make Myself known [in acts and great miracles]. “
Exodus 6:3 AMP

I’ve noticed that many times in the Bible, when God was set to do something new, an aspect of His identity was revealed via a new name.

God wanted to liberate the Israelites, His servants from bondage in Egypt. He let Moses in on this and wanted Moses to lead the great EXODUS. Moses needed some reassuring, so God gave him some ‘teasers’ to help convince he and the Israelites, that God had indeed sent Moses (Exodus 4:1-8):

Teaser #1 God asks Moses to cast his rod to the ground, he did and it became a snake. God asked him to take it from its tail and it turned back into a rod.

Teaser #2 God asks Moses to put his hand into his clothing. When he did, it turned leprous. He repeated the act and his normal skin returned.

After these, God make the statement that is our key verse (see above). He pulled off some never-before-seen acts in Egypt so that Pharoah would let the Israelites go, and pulled off mighty miracles as the Israelites journeyed on to the promised land e.g. crossing the red sea (Exo 14:1-31).

God does not need to give you teasers to assure you of His commitment to fulfil any promise He’s made you today. If out of love He sent Jesus Christ to die for our sins, there’s no good thing that He would withhold from us, if we walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11).

However, the validity of He revealing His name to us via His acts in our lives has not run out. So, do you need God to do something new in your life? Call upon Him using His relevant name and watch Him prove faithful to His Word:

  • Do you need healing? Call on Jehovah Rapha  (Exodus 15:26)
  • Are you broke? Call on Jehovah Jireh (Genesis 22:14)
  • Need guidance? Call on the Great Shepherd (Psalms 23:1)
  • Have you lost your peace? Call on Jehovah Shalom (Judges 6:24)
  • Identity struggles? CAll on Elohim (Genesis 1:26)
  • Do you need SALVATION? Call on JESUS (Mattew 1:21)

Keep digging into Scripture and marvel at how dynamic and true to His Word, our Heavenly Father is!

God bless you🙂
