“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT

The last source of discouragement we’ll be looking at:

Some meanings: “anxiety; something that causes feelings of dread or apprehension; something a person is afraid of; anticipation of the possibility that something unpleasant will occur.” Dictionary.com

When fear comes knocking at the door, we let it in and make ourselves comfortable with its company, it can lead to discouragement when we let it breed. Anticipating that something bad is going to happen could drain out motivation, resulting in an attitude like ‘Why should i even try, it’s not going to work anyway’. A person can therefore get discouraged before even starting out something when fear is involved.

Our key verse tells us fear is a spirit and it does not originate from God; it originates from the devil.

So, how do we treat the devil and his associated stuff? We resist him (James 4:7).

How exactly do we resist him?

By verbally confessing the truth of the Word of God – the Sword of the Spirit – against whatever circumstance we’re facing that negates it and/or the lies the devil throws at us, just like Jesus did during his temptation, whilst simultaneously wearing the armour of God.
(Matthew 4:1-11; Ephesians 6:11-17; 2 Corinthians 10:5).

If the devil used scripture out of context to try and mislead Jesus, he is not going to use any less strategy against us. We should therefore know the truth of God regarding our lives, as there’s no issue we face that God has not provided an answer for us in His Word. Let’s get to digging into it and weed out everything that would get and keep us discouraged, because it shields the truth of who God is to us.

God bless you🙂
