“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world , and it is certain we can carry nothing out.”
1 Timothy 6:6-7 KJV
A second source of discouragement:
LACK OF CONTENTMENT
Sometimes, our discouragement arises from comparisons. This era of social media adding to the pressure to measure up to some ‘standard’ of non-existent perfect lives doesn’t help either. Carefully selected and edited photos don’t show the big picture of everything individuals face. Chances are, you probably lead a more exciting life than those you may envy. On the flip side, you have no idea what such individuals have had to put up with to arrive where they are now. Don’t compare yourselves with others; the Bible infers such as foolishness (2 Cor 10:12).
Our measure of perfection is our Heavenly Father! Jesus exemplified that and the Bible documents how we could too (Matthew 5:48; John 1:1,14 Romans 8:29).
If you’ll just take a breather and begin to think, you’ll have many reasons to smile and thank God. So, let’s get you started:
- You can actually read this – a reason to thank God you’re not blind.
- You smiled at the first point – at least you can feel some movement in your face.
- You had a tough day at work – at least you have a job.
- You’re hungry and broke – at least you can feel the sensation of hunger and spend some money should you get some right-away.
There are many too sick to feel hungry or spend the huge amount of money they have in the bank.
The point is, if you’ll just look around and have a think, you’ll find reasons to thank God. Be content, whilst simultaneously trusting God to mould you for the brighter place He’s taking you to (Proverbs 4:18) ❤
God bless you
