“Now you [collectively] are Christ’s body and [individually] you are members of it, each part severally and distinct [each with his own place and function].“
1 Corinthians 12:27 AMP
Darlene Zschech has been one of my favourite music ministers of all time! For some reason, I kept playing this video (see below) over and over again like some analyst and/or a treasure seeker, trying to find ‘some missing piece’… then it dawned on me why God had me down this route. This (brilliant in my opinion) music video reminds me of the above verse (I have no official music knowledge so no expert).
The song info says Darlene Zschech, Israel Houghton and Kari Jobe wrote the song. Darlene is the lead vocalist, but Israel sang, played the guitar and directed the musicians whilst Kari, Miriam, Dee, Barry and others were backing vocalists. What about the youngsters who played brilliantly at the beginning, all through and ushered in the bridge, the drummer who was fabulous, and guitarists that simultaneously played and sang too? How about all those involved in the set-up, recording, editing (and all i don’t know about) who weren’t featured in the video but whose work nonetheless, contributed to the blessing the song and video are? Somebody commented on YouTube that he got saved after listening to this song? Isn’t that marvelous? Glory to God!
I personally think this music video is brilliant (said it one too many times right? 🙂 ), but several individuals contributed to its success. It’s similar to the Body of Christ. We all have a place, we all have our function! We shouldn’t be individuals who sit about like some know-it-all person judging parts of the Body: who did or did not do whatnot, but find our place and diligently carry out our function(s). If we, the Church are not looking the picture of Christ, it’s probably best to ‘analyse’ ourselves first, find out where we missed it and start doing our bit to fix it with God’s help.
The picture of unity in the Church in the book of Acts is so beautiful. Unity preceded the descent of the Holy Spirit to infill believers (Acts 2:1-4,) and as a result, miracles, signs, and wonders were the norm, the Body of Christ grew, believers did not lack, the Gospel was preached in previously unreached areas etc (Acts 2:43-47, 2:37-41; 4:32-35; 5:12-16; 6:7; 8:1-8). I believe a major reason was that they understood their place in the Body and performed their tasks. Guess what? God’s desire remains the same for the Church now because Jesus has not changed (Hebrews 13:8); the issues He came to fix still remain in this day and age. I believe similar could happen in our time if we all knew our place in the body and performed our functions diligently.
Have you found your place? Are you carrying out your function? The puzzle would NEVER be complete without THAT final piece. YOU MATTER!
God bless you 🙂
