“So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead). For as the human body apart from the spirit is lifeless, so faith apart from [its] works of obedience is also dead.” James 2: 17, 26 AMP
Such powerful texts!
“NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].” Hebrews 11:1 AMP
The works of faith simply refer to things that show we have faith, which I believe are our SPEECH – what we say, and our ACTIONS – what we do.
“And answering, Jesus said to them, Have faith of God. For truly I say to you, Whoever says to this mountain, Be taken up and be thrown into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be to him, whatever he says.” Mark 11:22-23 LITV
A careful study of Hebrews 11 reveals how several characters of old showed the faith they possessed through their corresponding actions. They heard what God said, believed Him and lived like it was their present reality, even if it didn’t look like it at the time e.g.
“By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” Hebrews 11:7 KJV
They showed us that the primary source of faith is the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
During His earth walk, several people encountered the miraculous power of God through Jesus via their speech which gave away the status of their faith e.g.
“And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,…When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment…For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole…And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?…And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.” Mark 5:25,27-28,30,34 KJV
If you believe in something so much, it would reflect in your speech and action; your faith is alive to the extent of its works.
God bless you🙂
